Last Tuesday, September 19, our Seccuri Team had the honor of hosting the first Seccuri Session, in which we interviewed Pedro Adamović, CISO of Galicia, one of the main banks in Argentina's financial system.

Given the current global cybersecurity talent gap, which exceeds 4 million professionals, these Seccuri Sessions were created as a space to bring some of the industry's leading figures closer to cybersecurity professionals and enthusiasts around the world, to motivate and support them in advancing their cyber careers. 

Our first Seccuri Session, which had more than 100 people registered from 17 different countries, brought important lessons from our special guest and cybersecurity guru, Pedro Adamović. Drawing on his career as a CISO at institutions such as Banco Itaú Argentina, Nación Servicios and now Galicia, Pedro highlighted several aspects that are important to keep in mind in order to move forward successfully in a cybersecurity career.

• Recognize the importance of cybersecurity teams, and particularly each of our roles, in generating value for organizations.
• Some of the most important qualities of successful CISOs include being flexible, adapting quickly to situations, making sound decisions in a concrete and swift manner, and communicating clearly with teams.
• Teamwork is essential in times of crisis. It is also essential to know and speak the language of the business.
• One of the biggest challenges today is developing soft skills, such as knowing how to readapt and be flexible.
• The rapid evolution of technology means that existing roles are constantly changing and that new roles even emerge within teams to face emerging challenges.
• To adapt, it is important to maintain an attitude of constant learning.
• Learning to use new technologies and tools is key to facing the challenges of this field.
• Knowing how to code, understanding defensive techniques, and being able to carry out security operations are some of the main technical skills needed to start a cybersecurity career.
• Starting at Entry-Level allows enthusiasts to see the full picture of cybersecurity and learn what the basic security operations are.
• Anyone can start a career in cybersecurity. All it takes is the drive and motivation to start attending conferences and reading about the subject.
• There are great opportunities for women interested in starting their careers in cybersecurity.
• Cybersecurity is a field that offers a wide variety of career paths.
